Easy Way Out of Boredom

Easy Way Out of Boredom

We tend to associate the word boredom with something negative. Well, certainly I do, when it comes out of the mouth of my two young children! However, there is a different way of looking at it.

There are possibly many reasons why we can become bored but what if we consider that "feeling bored" is merely the way our mind communicates an important message to us. The message might be: "You need to be stimulated" or "You need a change" or "You need to break that pattern" or: "You really need to challenge yourself here". Doesn't it make perfect sense that "boredom" seems to creep upon us when we are supposed to perform a task that we are not really too keen on performing? Isn't boredom just the first, unmistakable sign of our old friend procrastination visiting us again? After all, we have such busy lives and so much to do, how can we be bored??!

When boredom hits you next time, here is what you might consider doing.

You will prepare yourself for that moment, so you can start acting right away and not linger in boredom induced self-pity.

When you feel more inspired, make a list of all the things you would like to do, all the places you would like to see, all the projects you would like to investigate or finish. Make that list and have it ready. Whenever you feel that there is nothing for you to do, take that list and choose an activity you can do. This should not be a problem; after all, it is the list of "wishes." If you feel particularly de-motivated, it doesn't have to be a giant undertaking, sometimes just checking the travel options for your desired trip or taking a pleasant walk might trigger your "active cells" back into action.

Of course, if you are one of those individuals who have their goals set and remember checking on them regularly, the "boredom" moment might be just the right time to re-assess them and outline those next steps. Whatever feels right at the moment to break that feeling of boredom fast will do, the choice is entirely yours.
